BOONE, N.C. - Omar Carter and Jamaal Trice scored 20 points each and Appalachian State University men's basketball shot a blistering 76 percent from the floor in the second half to take an 81-66 win over division-leading Elon on Saturday at the Holmes Center.

Carter recorded his second double-double of the season with 11 rebounds in addition to his 9-of-13 accuracy from the field. The senior added two assists, a block and a steal in 29 minutes off the bench.

Trice was efficient as well, knocking down 6-of-9 attempts from the floor, including 2-of-5 three-pointers and 6-of-8 free throws. He added two assists and a rebound as well in his second 20-point outing in the last three contests.

After a close back-and-forth first half, ASU took a 29-26 lead into the intermission. Coming out of the break, the Mountaineers (9-11, 5-5 SoCon) quickly bumped the advantage to 42-28, culminated by an Andre Williamson dunk. The senior forward narrowly missed out on his second double-double in three games, with nine points and 10 rebounds before fouling out.

From there, the Apps fought off several small Elon (10-10, 5-4) rallies to built up to an 18-point lead with two minutes to play. The Phoenix resorted to fouling until the end of the contest in an effort to slow the pace, but never pulled any closer than 14 points for the duration of regulation.

Nathan Healy provided the final margin with a  free throw following a flagrant foul by Elon's Ryley Beaumont with seven seconds remaining in the heated contest. In his third-straight start, Healy scored six points with five points, two assists and two steals.

Appalachian shot a modest 36.7 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, including a 3-of-14 mark from beyond the arc. ASU then flipped a switch to knock down 19-of-25 attempts from the field and half of the squad's six three-pointers after the break to settle at 54.5 percent on the afternoon. Elon also improved after the break from 28.6 percent to 46.7 percent to finish the day at 37.9 percent shooting.

The Phoenix narrowly won the battle on the glass, grabbing 37 rebounds to ASU's 36. Lucas Troutman led the visitors with 10 boards and also scored nine points in the effort. Jack Isenbarger sank four treys en route to 20 points on the afternoon.

Mike Neal matched up against fellow freshman Austin Hamilton, and each point guard led his team with three assists. Neal added seven points, two steals and a rebound, while Elon's Hamilton scored 10 points with a pair of boards.

Isaac Butts chipped in seven points and five rebounds in 11 minutes off the bench. The big man helped contribute to the Mountaineers' 40-28 advantage on points in the paint.

The win was ASU's seventh in a row against Elon and improved the Apps to 7-2 at the Holmes Center this season.

ASU's three-game homestand continues on Thursday as Samford visits the High Country. The Apps then host College of Charleston on Saturday.
