BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's basketball travels to Wofford for the first of two regular season meetings with the Terriers. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Wofford's Benjamin Johnson Arena.
The Mountaineers (7-9, 3-3 SoCon) concluded a two-game homestand on Saturday with a hard-fought 83-79 defeat against league leader Davidson.
Omar Carter helped lead the Mountaineers back from a 10-point deficit to take a lead in the second half with 17 points, including three three-pointers. He added six rebounds. Isaac Butts came off the bench for his first action since December and chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds.
ASU's 36.7 mark from downtown is tied with Georgia Southern for the league lead.
Andre Williamson leads the Southern Conference with 1.6 blocks per game, ranks second with a 59.0 field goal percentage and stands sixth in the league with 6.6 rebounds per game.
The Apps return home for a 3 p.m. contest against rival Western Carolina on Saturday. The contest will be televised on the SoCon Sports Network and ESPN3.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
• Wofford (10-8, 3-3 SoCon) snapped a two-game skid with a convincing 88-63 home win against Georgia Southern on Saturday.
• Kevin Giltner leads the team with 15.4 points and 2.4 three-pointers per game.
• Two other players score in double figures as Brad Loesing adds 14.3 points and Karl Cochran averages 10.9 points per game. Loesing's 5.2 assists per game rank second in the league.
• Wofford leads the SoCon with 61.6 points allowed per game as well as a 1.2 assist-to-turnover ratio.
• WC is 7-1 at home on the season, including a 3-1 mark in league games. The lone blemish came at the hands of Davidson, 72-69, on Dec. 1.
SERIES HISTORY:
• Appalachian holds a 22-13 advantage in the all-time series, including a 7-4 mark in road games.
• ASU last traveled to Wofford in December 2009, for a nail-biting 77-76 win.
• Since then, Wofford has won three games in a row, including two Southern Conference Tournament meetings.
• The Terriers held on for a 56-51 win in the 2010 SoCon championship game and knocked the Mountaineers out of the 2011 tournament with a 69-56 quarterfinal win last season.
• Carter averages 13.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in two meetings with WC, while Butts adds 5.8 points and 8.6 rebounds in five meetings. The big man shoots 51.9 percent from the floor against Wofford.
• Williamson has also had success against the Terriers, with 8.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.6 blocks in five games.
• The forward tallied 11 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks in the 2011 SoCon Tournament meeting, and led ASU with 12 points,12 rebounds and four blocks in the aforementioned 2010 SoCon championship game.
