BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University women's
basketball hopes to rebound from its first Southern Conference loss when it travels to Wofford for a 6 p.m. contest on Wednesday at Benjamin Johnson Arena.
The Mountaineers (11-3, 5-1 SoCon) dropped a 55-52 heartbreaker to Davidson on Sunday, their first home loss of the season.
The Terriers (9-7, 2-5 SoCon) dropped both of their games over the weekend at Chattanooga and Samford but did pick up a win over Davidson last Wednesday.
Series History
• The Mountaineers are 22-8 all-time against the Terriers and have won eight-straight in the series dating back to the 2007-08 season.
• Appalachian State is 11-4 all-time in games played at Wofford, including four-straight road wins.
• The Apps picked up a 74-59 win when the teams last met on Feb. 19, 2011 in Boone. Anna Freeman and Sam Ramirez posted 24 and 22 points, respectively, in the win.
• When the teams last met in Spartanburg, ASU grabbed an 81-60 victory. Ramirez notched another 20-plus point performance against the Terriers when she poured in 24 points.
• The Mountaineers have won the last eight games by an average score of 75-64 and have won by double-digit margins in each of the past three games.
Scouting the Terriers
Wofford • 9-7, 2-5 SoCon
• The Terriers are in their ninth season under head coach Edgar Farmer, a 1994 graduate of the University of North Carolina.
• Wofford features two players who average just shy of a double-double this season. April Moorehouse ranks second on the team in scoring (9.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.0 rpg) while Daniella Motley ranks third in points (9.8 ppg) and first in rebounds (8.6 rpg).
• The top scorer for the Terriers is Morgan Wrightson who averages 11.6 points per game. As a squad, Wofford has just one player, Wrightson, who averages more than 10 points per game.
• The Terriers have proven to be one of the toughest defensive teams in the SoCon. Wofford ranks first in the league in scoring defense (58.8 ppg) and first in field-goal percentage defense (35.5 percent) and three-point field goal percentage defense (22.9 percent).
• Wofford ranks fifth nationally in three-point field goal defense and 53rd nationally in field-goal percentage.
Looking Ahead
• Appalachian State faces one of its toughest tests of the season when it squares off with preseason SoCon favorite Chattanooga on Jan. 21 in Boone. The game
against the Lady Mocs will be broadcast on ESPN3.
• The Mountaineers will then square off against defending SoCon
Tournament champion Samford on Jan. 23 before traveling to Furman (Jan.
28) and hosting Western Carolina (Jan. 30) to close out the month.
• ASU opens February with road game at Georgia Southern (Feb. 4) and College of Charleston (Feb. 6) before returning home for three-straight.
