LYNCHBURG, VA. - Appalachian State University men's track and field kept with is consistent showings Saturday, as the Mountaineers recorded many solid performances at the Liberty Invitational.
Nick Carter got things started in the 1500, as he finished 26th with a time of 4:08.80. The mark is Carter's best of the season thus far in the event.
In the 4x100m relay, the squad made up of Dennis Moore, Justin Thomas, TJ Lockard and Landon Powell came in first with a time of 41.18.
Dennis Moore started off strong in the sprinting events, as the trackster came in third with a mark of 10.93 in the 100m dash. Justin Thomas and Lockard followed suit, placing seventh and 30th with marks of 11.10 and 11.55.
Powell competed in the 400m dash, running the event in 49.13, good enough for a seventh place finish.
Five Apps ran the 800m run, with Andrew Yarchin leading the group, notching a third place finish with a time of 1:56.27.
Read Caulkins came in sixth and Bud Galloway 10th to round out the top ten. Caulkins posted a time of 1:57.56, while Galloway had a time of 1:58.03.
Nick Carter and Josh Jirgal came in 33rd and 45th with times of 2:02.04 and 2:04.17.
In the 110m hurdles, Trey Jones came in sixth with a time of 15.22 and AJ Dohanic finished 11th with a mark of 15.42.
Dohanic and Jones also raced in the 400m hurdles, finishing 11th and 16th with times of 57.05 and 58.11.
In the long jump, Phillip Bush took home third place with a leap of 22-0.25.
Jake Goodchild and Darius Purcell also took part in the event, leaping 20-2.25 and 18-10 earning t-14th and 24th place finishes.
In the throwing events, Jerod Gardner was solid in the shot put, notching the runner-up spot with a throw of 54-2. The toss is Gardner's personal best in the event and keeps him at sixth on Appalachian's all-time list in the shot put.
Jacob Lane came in third in the shot put, Caleb Poplin, 13th and Zane Lail 22nd. The trio posted throws of 52-1.75, 45-1 and 41-3.25. All three performances were personal bests showings for Lane, Poplin and Lail.
Moore also led the way for the Black and Gold in 200m dash, winning the event with a time of 21.64.
Landon Powell finished tied for 10th in the 200m dash with a mark of 22.28, TJ Lockard came in 26th recording a time of 22.66 and Justin Thomas and Phillip Bush finished 27th and 31st overall.
In the 5,000m run Charles Wofford recorded a new personal best performance with a time of 15:58.56.
Patrick Hill was the lone App to compete in the triple jump, leaping 40-7.50, good enough for a 12th place finish.
Darius Purcell kept with his strong outings in the high jump, winning the event with a jump of 6-8.25.
Stephen Davis and Josh Hogg came in eighth and tenth with jumps of 6-4.25 and 6-2.25. Both marks are personal bests for the two in the high jump.
Ryan Twiford came in second in the pole vault, vaulting 15-9, and Landon Hunt and Jack Bell finished tied for eighth recording vaults of 14-3.25.
In the last throwing event the discus, Lail, Poplin and Lane came in 14th, 15th and 25th.
Closing out the meet, the 4x400m relay team of Bush, Goodchild, Jones and Lockard placed fifth with a time of 3:26.29.
The Mountaineers look to continue their solid outdoor performances, as the team heads to Cullowhee, N.C. to compete at the Beach vs. Mountains meet hosted by Western Carolina on Saturday, April 9.
