Appalachian State University baseball looks to begin its annual April blitz this weekend when it hosts a three-game Southern Conference series versus Wofford. Game times are set for 3 p.m. Friday (note time change due to forecast for precipitation on Friday evening), 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at ASU's Beaver Field at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium.

The calendar turning from March to April is a welcome site for Appalachian (12-13, 1-8 SoCon), which was just 7-11 last month but is a sterling 34-4 over the past two Aprils (16-2 last year and 18-2 in 2009).

The Mountaineers have also used the past two Aprils to bounce back from sluggish conference starts, going 9-2 in SoCon games last April and 10-2 in 2009.

Appalachian is playing its first conference game in 12 days and is fresh off its first weekend series victory in over a month, having taken 2-of-3 games from visiting Cornell last weekend.

Wofford (14-12, 2-4 SoCon) comes into the weekend playing perhaps its best baseball of the season, having won three of its last five games. Last weekend, the Terriers took 2-of-3 games from perennial SoCon power The Citadel, marking their first series victory over the Bulldogs since joining the SoCon in 1998.

The series is part of a stretch of eight home games in two weeks for ASU while Wofford is embarking on its first road series of the season. The Terriers have played 22 of their first 26 games at home and left the state of South Carolina only once in the first six weeks of the campaign.
