GREENSBORO, N.C. — Despite two hits and a home run from
Tyler Zupcic, Appalachian State University baseball dropped Sunday's series finale to UNC Greensboro, 5-3, at UNCG Baseball Stadium.
Appalachian (9-11, 1-8 SoCon) jumped out to a 2-0 lead on
Jeremy Dowdy's two-run single in the top of the first but UNCG (13-6, 5-1 SoCon) responded with a run in the second and two in the third to take a 4-2 advantage.
The Mountaineers cut the deficit to 4-3 on Zupcic's solo blast over the left-field wall to lead off the seventh inning but the Spartans got the run back in the bottom of the stanza to regain a two-run advantage. ASU went down 1-2-3 in the eighth and ninth innings to suffer its sixth loss in seven games.
Zupcic finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI to go along with his third homer of the season.

Doug Jones added two hits of his own.
Seth Grant battled through six innings, allowing four runs on five hits, but issued four walks and fell to 1-3 on the campaign.

Appalachian returns to the friendly confines of Beaver Field at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium for nine of its next 10 games, beginning with a non-conference tilt versus UNC Asheville on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
