BOONE, N.C.– Alison Blasingame saved her best for last, tallying a career-high 21 kills, but it was not enough as Appalachian State volleyball fell to Davidson, 3-2, on Senior Night at the Holmes Center.

The Wildcats (15-11, 5-8) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before the Mountaineers (18-9, 10-3) came storming back to send the match to a decisive fifth set.

Davidson was able to recover after blowing the early lead to take a 15-10, match-clinching victory in the fifth set. Appalachian's loss snapped a nine-match home winning streak and marked its only Southern Conference home loss of the season.

Both squads battled through a back-and-forth first set that featured 13 ties and eight lead changes. ASU led, 21-20, late in the set but the Wildcats scored five of the next six points for a 25-22 win.

The second set was all Davidson as the visitors led from start to finish to take a 25-21 win and pin Appalachian's back to the wall, but the Mountaineers responded with a dominant third-set performance that saw them hit a blistering .531 in a 25-9 win.

ASU took the fourth set with relative ease and never trailed in a 25-18 win to knot the match at two sets apiece. The Wildcats jumped out to an early 9-5 lead in the final set before Appalachian forced a Davidson timeout after closing the gap to 12-10.

Davidson came out of the timeout on fire and put the match away by a 15-10 final.

Blasingame led all players in kills and added three block assists. Meghann Forshey matched a career-high with 18 kills while Kelly Rhein had 14 kills and 14 digs.

Kasey Sauls led all players with 49 assists and added 15 digs. Anna Wagner tallied nine kills and 20 digs. Courtney Rhein had 27 digs and Jessica Ely chipped in with seven kills.

Davidson was paced by Caroline Brown's 18 kills while Molly Crenshaw tied Rhein for a match-high with 27 digs.

Appalachian hit .242 as a team while holding Davidson to a .171 attack percentage but the Wildcats finished the match with a 14-7 edge in blocks.

The Mountaineers return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at Western Carolina before finishing the regular season with matches at Chattanooga (Nov. 12) and Samford (Nov. 13).

MATCH NOTES: Friday's match was the final home match for seniors Alison Blasingame, Kelly Rhein, Kasey Sauls, Maggie Seeds and Anna Wagner... the five seniors were honored in a post-match ceremony along with team manager Adam Grant, also a senior... the loss snapped a nine-match home winning streak which tied the best streak in ASU history... Wagner tied a career-high in digs... Blasingame set a career-high with 42 attacks... her previous high was 28 against High Point on Aug. 28, 2010... interestingly enough, the Mountaineers rallied from down 2-0 to defeat High Point 3-2 last season... it was the last time ASU had rallied from a 2-0 deficit to pick up a win... Courtney Rhein pushed her dig total to 1,173 digs to move her into eighth-place in ASU history.
