Women's Basketball Opens Home Schedule With ETSU

BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State women's basketball will open its 2011-12 home schedule when it plays host to East Tennessee State at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 21 at the Holmes Center.

The Mountaineers (1-1) downed Gardner-Webb on Saturday by a 69-41 final. Anna Freeman set a career-high with 28 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for her 12th career double-double in the win over the Runnin' Bulldogs.

The Lady Bucs (0-3) enter the week after falling to UAB and Manhattan in Preseason WNIT action over the weekend. East Tennessee State has been outscored 232-176 through its first three games.

Monday's home-opener will also feature the unveiling of Appalachian's 2010-11 Southern Conference Regular Season Championship Banner. The Mountaineers ripped through the SoCon a year ago, finishing with a 17-3 record in conference play and snapping Chattanooga's string of 11-straight regular season titles.

SERIES HISTORY:
• The Mountaineers are 40-31 all-time against the Lady Bucs and have won two-straight meetings in the series.
• Appalachian State has played ETSU 71 times in its history, the second-highest amount of games against any opponent. The Apps have played arch rival Western Carolina 88 times.
• The Mountaineers have won four-straight home games against ETSA and are 19-10 at home against the Lady Bucs since the 1981-82 season.
• The Apps picked up a 75-56 victory in Johnson City last season. Anna Freeman led all scorers with 18 points in the win while Courtney Freeman had 10. Canesha Edwards scored 11 off the bench for the Mountaineers.
• ASU shot 51.6 percent (33-for-64) in the victory and held the Lady Bucs to just 33.3 percent (19-for-57) from the floor. The Apps also came away with a 45-28 edge in rebounds.
• Appalachian State picked up a 92-87 win when the teams last met in Boone (12/17/09). C. Freeman had 13 points in the win while A. Freeman had 10. Former Mountaineer standout Sam Ramirez had a team-high 21 points in the win.

SCOUTING THE LADY BUCS:
• ETSU (0-3) returns three starters from a team that went 19-12 last season and finished second ni the Atlantic Sun Conference with a 15-5 record in conference play before falling to Jacksonville in the second round of the A-Sun Tournament.                 
• Destiny Mitchell (11.0) and Tarita Gordon (10.3) lead the Lady Bucs in scoring this season and are the only two players averaging double-digit scoring for East Tennessee State.
• The Lady Bucs fell to Manhattan on Saturday by an 86-53 score and lost to UAB on Friday by a 59-47 final in the Preseason WNIT.
• Briana Bogard led the team 17 points against Manhattan and is ETSU's third-leading scorer at 8.3 points per game.
• The Lady Bucs also lost to Tennessee Tech, 87-76, to open the season. Mitchell scored 22 points in the contest and Gordon netted 22.

UP NEXT:
• Appalachian State heads to Atlanta for the Georgia State Thanksgiving Classic next weekend where it will face Eastern Kentucky and Georgia State.
