DAVIDSON, N.C. - After earning two shutouts last weekend, Appalachian
State women's soccer (5-7-1, 1-3-1 SoCon) suffered a 3-0 defeat to
Davidson (5-6-2, 3-2-0 SoCon) in Southern Conference action Friday night
at Alumni Stadium.
The Wildcats struck early, scoring their first goal in the third
minute. Julie Calhoun netted the game's first goal on a rebound off the
crossbar.
Davidson's second goal came on a penalty kick midway through the
second half. Sophie Newsom earned her third goal of the season, as the
Mountaineers dropped their second PK of the year.
In the 68th minute, Stephanie Gerow slotted DC's third goal of the game, securing the 3-0 shutout.
The Wildcats recorded 25 shots to Appalachian's eight. Sophomore Amy Kolowsky (Columbia, S.C. / Spring Valley) notched six saves on the day.
Senior Katy Dodd (Apex, N.C. / Apex) took two shots to lead the Black
and Gold.
Appalachian's road trip continues with a trip to Georgia Southern
(3-7-2, 1-3-1 SoCon) on Sunday. Kick off is scheduled for 2 p.m. in
Statesboro, Ga.
