Field Hockey Victorious on Senior Day
BOONE, N.C. – In Senior Day fashion, senior Kelsey Dorset netted the game-winning goal to snap Appalachian State field hockey eight game losing-streak to beat Liberty, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon in Kidd Brewer Stadium.

The Lady Flames (5-9) took an early lead when Mercedes Cox netted her third goal of the season early in the 4th-minute.  The Mountaineers (2-14) would responded with a goal of their own when junior Megan High scored her first goal of the season off a penalty corner assist from sophomore Brooklyn Shearer.  Appalachian would end the half all tied up 1-1 with a penalty corner opportunity with a few minutes left in the first-half.

Junior Casey Lammando gave ASU a 2-1 lead when she knocked in her first goal of the season in the 48th-minute.  Liberty's Lindsey Hanks scored the equalizing goal early in the 50th-minute.

Freshman Brooke Angellella found a wide-open Dorset to score the game-winning goal for the Mountaineers in the 57th-minute.

Senior Bridgette Street made a big save on a Lady Flames' penalty corner with four minutes left in the contest.  Liberty received one last penalty corner with 30 seconds left in the game, but the Mountaineers stellar defense forced a Liberty shot wide to seal the victory for the Apps.
