BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University field hockey was handed its first loss of the season by Towson, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
From the start of the match, the Mountaineers were tasked with slowing down the Tigers' offensive power. Kristie Blumer gave Towson the lead in the first half by rebounding a ball in front of the net and driving it to the back.
The Apps (2-1) struggled to get an offensive groove going, with Towson (1-2) outshooting them 13-4 in the first half.
Goalkeeper Bridgette Street kept the score close with all seven of her saves coming in the first half.
In the second half, Appalachian came out attacking and putting pressure on the opponents defense, outshooting them 7-3.
Lisa Charney led the way offensively for the Black and Gold with six shots. All-conference player Nicole Morgan saw action for the first time this season, as she complimented Charney with a couple well struck balls in the second half that were saved by the Tiger's goalkeeper.
In the 61st minute, Blumer would assist Kasie Nurko to put the Tigers up 2-0.
ASU's record now stands at 2-1 as they prepare for their road trip to Moon Township, Pa. Friday, September 10 to take on Robert Morris at 1 p.m. They will then turn around and play La Salle on Saturday, September 11, which is also in Moon Township, Pa.
