Morgan Seizes the Day with Game Winner

BOONE, N.C. - Senior Nicole Morgan slapped the ball into the back of the goal with 2:03 remaining to give Appalachian State University (3-5) the 1-0 victory over Georgetown (5-4).

The Mountaineers were pushed back defending its own goal for most of the match, but everything changed when App was given its second corner of the match with 2:13 remaining. Senior Jenn Heiss drilled a ball towards the goal that was saved by the Hoya's goalkeeper, but junior Kelsey Dorset was there to rebound the shot and flick the ball up and over the goalie. Morgan then swung at the ball in mid-air and connected to tally the game winner and her first goal of the season.

Appalachian took advantage of its opportunities with only having six shots all game to Georgetown's 15.

The Apps' defense was the backbone to its third win of the season, as junior Bridgette Street denied 11 Hoya shots.

Street had a handful of key saves but none bigger than one that came with 15 minutes remaining. Georgetown's Annie Wilson sent a rocket towards the goal, and Street dropped her body down to do the splits and kick the ball out of play.

Sophomore Casey Lammando also kept the Hoyas in check by making a number of key tackles when Georgetown had breakaway attacks and out numbered the Black and Gold.

Coach Alexander and her squad now look at its 3 p.m. match tomorrow against Division-II Limestone at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
