Hobson Named SoCon Hitter of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. — On the strength of hitting .583 (7-for-12) with five extra-base hits, nine RBI and seven runs scored to lead Appalachian State University baseball to three road victories last week, second baseman Wes Hobson has been named the Southern Conference Hitter of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Hobson had multiple hits and RBI in each of Appalachian's three games last week, leading the Mountaineers to an 11-10 mid-week triumph at East Tennessee State and a rain-shortened two-game weekend sweep over second-place Samford. The senior had three doubles and two home runs en route to an outstanding 1.333 slugging percentage and 1.958 OPS (slugging percentage plus .625 on-base percentage). He accounted for 14 of ASU's 31 runs on the week with nine RBI and seven runs scored (two of the RBI and runs came on home runs).

Hobson opened the week by driving in four runs and scoring two more in the one-run win at ETSU. In the series opener at Samford, he homered twice in the game's first four innings and finished with two home runs, three walks, three RBI and four runs scored to headline ASU's 17-7 win. In the finale at Samford, he doubled twice with two RBI in a 3-for-5 performance that helped Appalachian complete the series sweep with a 7-3 victory.

With the big week, the preseason all-American extended his hitting streak to 11 games. He is hitting .500 (23-for-46) with five doubles, five home runs and 16 RBI during the 11-game streak.

Hobson and the Mountaineers (29-8-1) host a pair of non-conference tilts this week before they take a week-long break for final exams. Appalachian squares off with UNC Asheville on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Wake Forest on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at ASU's Beaver Field at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium.
