Sims Garners Tournament and State Honors
BOONE, N.C. - For averaging 24.7 points in three CollegeInsider.com Tournament games, Donald Sims was named to the all-tournament team on Wednesday. The junior guard also earned first team all-state honors from the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association for his stellar 2009-10 campaign with Appalachian State University men's basketball.

Sims led the Mountaineers (24-13, 13-5 SoCon) to the CIT semifinal round with 22 points against Harvard and 30 at Marshall in the quarterfinal. The Gaffney, S.C. native added 22 more in the season-ending loss to Pacific to finish the season with 20.4 points per game, good for top-25 in the nation.

His 754 points on the season are 71 more than the previous single-season Appalachian record, set by Billy Ross in 1992-93. After Ross, Sims is just the second App to win the SoCon scoring title. He led the nation in free throw percentage (95.1) and is first in three-pointers made, with a school record 123.

Sims was previously named the Malcolm U. Pitt SoCon Player of the Year, the CollegeInsider.com SoCon Most Valuable Player, first team all-SoCon tournament, NABC first team all-region and SoCon Player of the Month (February).
