ROCHESTER, Minn.- Appalachian State University wrestling (3-3) fell against tough competition at the Northern Quad on Saturday at the UCR Regional Sports Center.
The Mountaineers faced two top-10 teams on Saturday and began the day taking on third-ranked Minnesota. ASU was defeated 30-6 and only received two wins in their first outing. Junior Savva Kostis got the Black and Gold on the board in the 149 matchup as he took down Danny Zilverberg, 9-8, in a close battle. Redshirt junior Austin Trotman picked up the other win for Appalachian at 184 as he took care of Kevin Steinhaus, 11-9.
Appalachian State also took on sixth-ranked Central Michigan and picked up three wins in the 31-10 loss. Junior Mike Kessler got the Mountaineers on the board as he tallied a 3-1 decision over Scott Mattingly in the 141 match. Junior Kyle Blevins notched ASU's next victory as he took down Adam Miller, 5-3 in the 165. Trotman got a second win as he nailed the major decision over Dillon Kern, 10-2.
ASU also faced North Dakota State and fell, 23-16 in a close dual.
Appalachian is back in action on Dec. 3 as they take on Ohio at 6 p.m. in Varsity Gym.
