Field Hockey Slips in Final Regular Season Match

DAVIDSON, N.C -Appalachian State University field hockey went into halftime tied with Davidson, but it came out flat in the second half to allow five more goals in its 6-1 loss.

The Mountaineers fell behind in the 15th minute as Davidson's Annie Evans rebounded a Wildcat shot and slipped the ball by Bridgette Street to take a 1-0 lead.

Just before halftime, Kelsey Dorset would find Nicole Morgan in front of the goal as Morgan knotted the score at 1-1 for the first half. Morgan's game-tying goal gives her five on the season.

In the second half, the Cats' came out with a different mind set as it attacked App with a wreckless abandon. Davidson would rack up 27 of its 35 in the second period as it bombarded Street with balls. Appalachian only recorded six shots on the day.

ASU ended up allowing five goals in the second hald with the NorPac's leading scorer, Finley Amato, beginning the scoring frenzy in the 51st minute.

Street had a rough day in the cage, but she still managed to tally a season high 17 saves during the match. The junior frrom Stillwater, Pa. now has 139 saves on the season, which leads the conference.

The Black and Gold loss caps off its regular season schedule, and it now it is preparation time for head coach Brandi Alexander and the Mountaineers as they face Stanford Thursday at 1:30 p.m. for the first round of the NorPac Tournament in Davidson, N.C.
