BOONE, N.C.- Appalachian State University volleyball defeated its second-straight Southern Conference South Division foe Saturday evening at the Holmes Center, as the Mountaineers downed Davidson 3-0. The victory improves ASU to 15-7 on the season and 6-3 in conference action, while the Wildcats fall to an even 13-13 overall and 4-5 in league play.

The first set was hotly contested, despite Davidson earning an early 10-6 lead off a Christine Perzinski kill.

A resilient Appalachian squad, rallied to tie play at 19 all, with kills by Lauren Swecker, Meghann Forshey and Caroline Sedon propelling ASU's offensive unit.

A back and forth affair ensued, as action was tied nine more times, before a Wildcat serving error and final slam by Swecker earned the Mountaineers the thrilling 30-28 first set win.

Swecker posted a breakout match, tallying a match and season-best 15 kills, while hitting .483, in addition to recording seven digs.

It was all Appalachian from there on out, as the Apps carried their momentum into the second set.

After play was knotted a seven all, a block assist by Maggie Seeds and Alison Blasingame earned ASU the lead for good.

Points by Blasingame, Seeds and Swecker enabled the squad to take a commanding 15-8 lead.

Another kill by Swecker put ASU up 18-12, and the Wildcats were never able to get anything going, as points down the stretch by Anna Wagner and Seeds pushed Appalachian to the nine-point second set victory.

Keeping with its impressive play, Appalachian had no problem putting Davidson away in the third and what would be final set.

Back-to-back block assists by Sedon and Seeds and Swecker and Sedon put ASU on top early, up 6-3.

The early advantage was all the Mountaineers needed, as they would never relinquish their lead, despite DC pulling within as close as one point.

Solid blocking made the score 13-8 in Appalachian's favor, as Wagner and Blasingame each registered solo blocks.

Davidson errors combined with stout offensive play by Seeds, Swecker and Wagner put the set away for Appalachian and earned ASU the 25-15 third set and 3-0 match win.

With little time to rest, the squad continues with its homestand, as it welcomes another SoCon South Division foe, Georgia Southern to the Holmes Center, Sunday, October 24. The match between the Mountaineers and Eagles is set to begin at 2 p.m.
