Field Hockey Loses 3-0 to VCU

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University field hockey fell behind early in Sunday's match versus Virginia Commonwealth and could not rebound as it fell 3-0 to the Rams on Senior Day.

The Mountaineers (5-8, 1-2 NorPac) allowed Rachel Whitt from VCU (11-4, 4-1 CAA) to get the first goal of the match in the 6th minute of play. The Rams would pour in two more goals with in the first 20 minutes of the match to claim a commanding 3-0 lead. VCU would hold onto that lead the rest of the game and win by the same score.

Appalachian was out shot 21-8 for the match with 12 of VCU's shots coming in the first half.

Goalkeeper Bridgette Street had a tough day in goal as she had to deal with the hard-hitting Rams. Street recorded nine saves on the day, which moves her into sole possession of fifth place on ASU's career saves list. She now has 90 saves on the season and 384 during her tenure at App.

Sophomore Lisa Charney was the Black and Gold's leader on offense as she took three shots with all them being on goal.

Before the match, ASU honored its five seniors for their time with the field hockey program. The five Mountianeer seniors are Caitlin Counts, Jenn Heiss, Nicole Morgan, Katie Price and Christine Zanowicz.

Appalachian is back in action on Thursday, October 21 as it faces Davidson at 7 p.m. at Kidd Brewer Stadium. The match against the Wildcats will be the last home match of the season for App.
