TROY, N.Y. - Appalachian State University went 1-3 Saturday at the Northeast Duals, picking up its first dual win of the season with a 34-9 victory over Sacred Heart.
In the victory over Sacred Heart, Tony Gravely gave ASU six quick points by getting a forfeit win at 125. Jacob Earp followed with a dominating 13-2 win over Anthony Ricco at 133, winning 13-2. Mike Kessler and Savva kostis earned back-to-back forfeit wins to give ASU a solid 22-0 lead. Travis Puckett dropped a tough 2-0 decision at 157 but Kyle Blevins and Austin Trotman earned back-to-back wins to clinch the win.
The Apps dropped their first match of the day to Binghamton, 28-16. Appalachian grabbed a quick 9-0 lead courtesy of wins by Gravely and Celorrio, but lost three of the next four to go down 18-9. Trotman defeated Matt Berretta by a 12-3 major decision to bring ASU within five, but the Bearcats clinched the match by winning the next two matches.
The Mountaineers fell to the University of Pennsylvania in the next match 22-12. Celorrio, Chip Powell and Ken Altarac were winners for ASU.
Appalachian dropped its final match of the day to No. 7 Nebraska, 40-6. ASU managed two wins over the Cornhuskers, with Celorrio and Blevins each earning a decision.
The Black and Gold are back in action on Friday, Dec. 4 when they travel to Ohio to take on the Bobcats and Cleveland State.
