Field Hockey Falls to Davidson, 5-2

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Appalachian State field hockey could not overcome two first half goals by Davidson's Claire Perry, and dropped a 5-2 conference decision to the Wildcats Saturday.

Perry connected twice in the final eight minutes of the first half, after what had been a scoreless first 27 minutes of action. Davidson peppered the ASU defense with 22 shots in the first frame, and would have taken a larger lead in to the break if not for the strong play in the net of sophomore keeper Bridgette Street (17 saves).

After Annie Evans scored in the 37th minute to put Davidson up 3-0, the Mountaineer offense finally got in gear. Sophomore forward Kelly Allaband scored her second goal of the season in the 43rd minute to bring the margin to 3-1. Ten minutes later, Allaband assisted on midfielder Lauren Kloeppinger's goal to cut the defecit to one.

However, the ASU rally could not hold its momentum in the latter stages of the game, and eventually surrendered two more goals to the Wildcats to fall by a final score of 5-2.

The Mountaineers will be back in action Sunday, as they host the Radford Highlanders in a NorPac conference game slated for 1 p.m. start at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
