Moon Township, Pa. - Appalachian State University field hockey fell to Missouri State 4-2 during their second game of the season. The Bears came out strong with a goal just four minutes into the game by Kristen Petty, followed by a goal from Melissa Lantz and Sarah Cusick. Leading into half time, Missouri State had the lead 3-0.
Quickly in the second half, Amanda Young answered back with a goal for the Mountaineers with an assist from junior Jessie Harris. Missouri State's Melissa Lantz scored another goal, giving Missouri State the lead 4-1.
ASU held strong and counterattacked with a goal from Christine Zanowicz with three minutes to go in the game. The two Mountaineer goals were not enough to lead them to a victory.
Goalkeeper Sabra Holt ended the game with four saves for the Apps.
ASU's next match takes place September 6 against the Longwood Lancers in Farmville, Va.
