Mountaineers Tie Davidson in Lone Exhibition Match

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State field hockey played its lone exhibition match against NorPac rival Davidson Thursday afternoon. The Mountaineers were impressive with a 1-1 tie against the Wildcats.

ASU tallied 12 shots in the first half with six on goal compared to Davidson's six shots with five on goal. Britti Himelfarb got the Wildcats on the board during the 25th minute scoring what would be Davidson's only goal of the match and giving them the lead heading into halftime.

Appalachian came out strong in the second half notching 14 shots with nine on goal. The Mountaineers defense held Davidson to zero shots. Jessie Harris came up big with a goal just 12 minutes into the second half with an assist from Christine Zanowicz tying the match at one all.

All told, ASU outshot Davidson 26-6 and had nine penalty corners to the Wildcats one. Sabra Holt started in goal for the Mountaineers earning five saves in the first half, while Bridgette Street and Denise Adams split time in the second half.

The Mountaineers open the 2008 campaign August 30 in Moon Township, Pa. as they take on Missouri State at 10:30 a.m.
