BOONE, N.C. -- Adrienne Shuler resigned as Appalachian State University's women's basketball head coach on Tuesday. Shuler served as Appalachian's head coach for six seasons.
Shuler compiled a 63-110 record in her six seasons at the helm, including an 8-22 mark in 2007-08.
ASU's best season under Shuler's direction came in 2005-06, when she led the Mountaineers to a 15-13 overall record, good for the program's first winning season since 1996-97. The 2005-06 Apps compiled an 11-7 mark in Southern Conference play, good for a fourth-place finish in the league standings, also Appalachian's best since the '96-97 campaign.
Under her tutelage, four Mountaineers reached the 1,000-point plateau and four earned all-SoCon recognition.
Prior to her appointment as the sixth head coach in Appalachian women's basketball history in 2002, Shuler had assistant coaching stints at Furman (1995-2002), Georgia College (1994-95), Okaloosa-Walton C.C. (1993-94) and Marshall (1992-93).
"We're appreciative of Coach Shuler's efforts over the past six seasons and thank her for her contributions to the women's basketball program, the athletics department and the University community," ASU director of athletics Charlie Cobb said. "She is a great person who has represented Appalachian with the utmost class. We wish her the very best in her future endeavors."
A national search for Appalachian's seventh women's basketball head coach will begin immediately.
