GREENVILLE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's basketball takes to the road for the first time this season for a Tuesday meeting with intrastate rival East Carolina at 7 p.m.
The Mountaineers (0-1) dropped the season opener on Friday night against Marshall in a nail-biter. The Thundering Herd trailed the first 19 minutes of the second half before taking a lead and hanging on for a wild 67-65 finish.
Several players had impressive starts to the season, including freshmen
Sad? Means, who led the team with 17 points, and
Canesha Edwards, who recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards. Sophomore
Sam Ramirez set a career high with 10 assists in the game as well.
The Pirates (1-0) handed Hampton a 74-58 loss in their opener, led by LaCoya Terry, who scored 14 points and dished out five assists.
The teams met last season in Boone, where ECU extended a 36-34 halftime advantage into a 75-69 win to take a 25-11 lead in the all-time series against Appalachian. Terry scored 23 points in the game to lead the Pirates in the win.
Brittany Mixon had 12 for ASU.
ECU is the second and final Conference USA opponent of the season. The Apps defeated UCF last season to finish with a 1-1 record against C-USA competition.
The two-game road trip concludes on Friday as the Mountaineers head to Winston-Salem for a 7 p.m. tilt with Wake Forest.
