Appalachian State field hockey returns home tonight after a modest two-game road trip to face NorPac Conference rival Davidson at 7:45 p.m. at Kidd Brewer Stadium. The Mountaineers will be playing just their second home game of the 2008 campaign, having fallen in their only other home match 4-1 to the Stanford Cardinal.
The Apps come into tonight's match having picked up their first win of the season this past Saturday over Monmouth with a 4-3 overtime decision. Appalachian is 1-8 overall on the season while the Wildcats are 3-7.
This will not be the first time this season that the Wildcats and Mountaineers have met. Appalachian and Davidson battled to a 1-1 tie on August 21st in an exhibition match that saw ASU post a 26-6 shot advantage over the Cats.
The Mountaineers are led offensively by Amanda Young's six goals including the game-winning goal against Monmouth. Christine Zanowicz is next in offensive production with three goals, while Jessie Harris has added one goal and four assists.
Defensively the Apps are led by seniors Quantina Chau, Ashley Patterson, Caitlin Counts, and Katie Price as well as freshman Hannah Martin. Goalkeeper Sabra Holt has 46 saves in goal on the year and a save percentage of .639.
After tonight's match Appalachian hits the road again for a 3 p.m. neutral-site battle on Sunday against Boston College in Durham, N.C.
