BOONE, N.C. ??“ The Appalachian State women's soccer team learned their fate early on Friday morning as the SoCon announced the 2007 women's soccer tournament bracket. The Mountaineers (10-5-3, 4-5-1) earn the sixth seed after clinching their spot with a 5-0 triumph over The Citadel on Wednesday afternoon. Appalachian will face Furman who won a 4-3 thriller over the Apps in Boone on October 7.

The match kicks off on Sunday, November 4 from Paladin Stadium in Greenville, S.C. at 5 p.m. The Mountaineers will be in search for their second win in program history at the SoCon tournament. Appalachian has faced Furman twice in the postseason, dropping a 2-3 overtime decision in 2000 and falling 0-4 to the Paladins a year ago.

Senior Courtney O'Brien was honored on Friday for her successes on the pitch as well as in the classroom when she was named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District. The Boca Raton, Fla. native earned third team honor for the first time in her career. O'Brien was one of only four SoCon players to garner the recognition. O'Brien is a senior captain for the Mountaineers and a leader in the defensive third. In the regular-season finale, O'Brien scored two assists to help ASU to the 5-0 victories and a spot in the SoCon tournament. In her four-year career, O'Brien has four goals and four assists for the Black and Gold.
