Coaching legend Bill Hodges will be the featured speaker at Appalachian State University men's basketball 2006 Tip-Off Dinner on November 8.
Hodges, the 1979 UPI, Associated Press, Sporting News and Kellogg National Coach of the Year, is most remembered for coaching Indiana State in the 1979 NCAA Championship Game.
That historic game featured Indiana State's Larry Bird and Michigan State's Magic Johnson meeting for the first time in their storied rivalry. The game also remains the most-watched national championship game in NCAA history.
Hodges also coached at Tennessee Tech, Long Beach State, Georgia State and Palm Beach Junior College.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear ASU head men's coach Houston Fancher give his thoughts on the upcoming season and meet ASU players throughout the evening.
The event begins at 6 p.m. on the Holmes Center floor with dinner catered by Bandanas Bar B Que & Grill. The cost of the event is $25 per person. Reservations must be made by November 1 and are limited to the 150 people.
