Thompson Tabbed Third-Team All-SoCon By League's Media
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Appalachian State University point guard D.J. Thompson has earned third-team all-Southern Conference accolades from the SoCon Sports Media Association, the league announced Tuesday. Thompson, a 5-8 sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., ranks among the SoCon's top five in four different categories, including assists (fourth at 4.56 apg), steals (second at 2.56 spg), assist-to-turnover ratio (fourth at 1.68) and three-point field goal percentage (third at .423). His 69 steals this season are the fourth-most in ASU history, while his 123 assists are just seven shy of moving into the top 10 in the school's annals. His 11.0 points per game are good for second on the squad and 23rd in the conference. He becomes ASU's fifth all-SoCon honoree in Houston Fancher's five years as head coach, joining Donald Payne (2001), Josh Shehan (2001), Graham Bunn (2003) and Shawn Hall (2003). Thompson and the Mountaineers (16-11, 9-7 SoCon) begin postseason play on Wednesday when they take on The Citadel in the first round of the 2005 Kyocera Southern Conference Tournament. Tipoff is slated for approximately 8:30 p.m. at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tenn.
