BOONE, N.C. - More than three months before the 2008 home opener, Appalachian State University has already sold 62 percent more football season tickets than it did for the entire 2007 season, according to ASU athletics ticket manager
Steve White.
Less than a month after the renewal deadline, Appalachian has already shattered the season-ticket sales record set a year ago. Many factors have contributed to the record sales, including:
?€˘ the Mountaineers' three-straight NCAA Division I national championships;
?€˘ the fact that Appalachian led the nation in attendance at 27,140 per game in 2007 (five of ASU's six regular-season home contests sold out in advance of gameday);
?€˘ interest created by the addition of a 4,400-seat upper deck on Kidd Brewer Stadium's east side;
?€˘ new incentives that reserve the right to purchase The Rock's best seats for members of the Yosef Club, which provides scholarship support for student-athletes.
The 62-percent increase includes season tickets for adults, youth (ages 3-12), senior citizens (ages 60+) and ASU faculty and staff. ASU students, which turned out to the tune of 9,000 per game in 2007, are not included in the figure. Tickets are provided free of charge to Appalachian students.
Due to the increased demand, only a limited number of season tickets are still available. Single-game tickets, if available, do not go on sale until Aug. 5. To purchase season tickets today, visit the ASU athletics ticket office in the Holmes Center or call
(828) 262-2079.
