BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's basketball head coach Houston Fancher announced on Wednesday the addition of two student-athletes to his 2008-09 recruiting class. Joining the Southern Conference North Division champions next season will be center Josh Nirenberg and guard Marcus Wright. Nirenberg, an imposing 6-9, 260-pound center, is a product of Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He averaged 15 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks per game for head coach Larry Cannon's squad. Nirenberg will help replenish a frontcourt that graduated five seniors from last season. A left-handed shooter, he is noted for his good hands and ability to finish plays around the basket. ASU's perimeter will be bolstered by the addition of Wright, a 6-0, 180-pound guard, that hails from nearby Winston-Salem, N.C. An explosive athlete that led Winston-Salem Prep to the 1-A state championship, he can play either guard position for the Apps next season. Last season he averaged 21.3 points, 5.1 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game for head coach Andre Gould. The pair, along with ASU's early signees, will join 10 returning players from last year's team that finished the season with an 18-13 record en route to its second-straight North Division title.
