SPARTANGURG, S.C. - The accolades continue to roll in for senior Brittany Zahn and the Appalachian State volleyball team. Zahn was named the volleyball Player of the Month for October by the Southern Conference office on Friday morning. Zahn earned two of the team's three Player of the Week honors and twice set the single-match kills record. The Mountaineers were 10-1 in the month, and are currently riding a nine-match winning streak. Zahn began the month with 15 kills and a .464 hitting percentage in a sweep over Wofford, before her historic weekend. Zahn broke the school record with 34 kills against Elon and followed the performance with 36 kills the following day at UNC Greensboro. The senior came back down a bit in the following four matches, averaging just over 15 kills per match as the team began its nine-match winning streak. She finished the month just as strong, with twenty or more kills in three of the team's final four matches of the month. Zahn broke the 30-kill plateau one final time, in the five-game win at Furman. All told, Zahn averaged 5.76 kills, 2.66 digs, and 0.51 blocks per contest, with a .287 hitting percentage. At a rate of 4.99 kills per game this season, Zahn ranks 13th in the country and first in the SoCon in the category. Two teammates also earned accolades in October, as Carla Durham earned Player of the Week honors on October 15, and Dianna Thomas was named the Student-Athlete of the Week on October 31. The team hosts a pair of home matches this weekend, with Elon at 7 p.m. Friday and UNC Greensboro at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Holmes Center.
