RADFORD, VA.- Appalachian field hockey goalkeeper Denise Adams and freshman midfielder Caitlin Counts both earned NorPac Player of the Week awards, for the week ending September 23. A sophomore and first-year starter, this is Adams' second time winning the NorPac Defensive Player of the Week Award. Over the course of the week, Adams played against some challenging competition, including No.1 North Carolina. Against the Tarheels, she recorded 19 saves, which is the second highest total in the NCAA this season. Not only was Adams strong against the Tarheels, but she also had 14 saves against NorPac foe Davidson. Freshman Caitlin Counts was awarded the NorPac Rookie of the Week Award. Counts, a walk-on at ASU, has proven to be a valuable asset to the Mountaineers. In ASU's third conference game of the season against Davidson, Counts scored the first two goals of her collegiate career. She helped the Apps recover from an early 1-0 deficit to take a 2-1 lead into the half. Adams and Counts will help lead the Mountaineers in their next NorPac match, as they face the Radford Highlanders on Saturday September 29 at 1p.m.
