NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - D.J. Thompson and Jeremy Clayton were named to the Southern Conference Media Association all-Southern Conference men's basketball teams released Thursday. Thompson garnered first-team honors while Clayton was selected to the third team. The individual superlatives mirrored those of the coaches as UNCG's Kyle Hines was named the Malcolm U. Pitt Player of the Year while Davidson's Stephen Curry earned Rookie of the Year honors. Davidson head coach Bob McKillop was named the Anton Foy Coach of the Year. Thompson (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road) earned all-SoCon honors from the media for the second time in his career after leading the Mountaineers with 15.7 points and 5.2 assists per game this season. The all-SoCon plaudits were the first of Clayton's (Greensboro, N.C./Ben. L. Smith) career as he finished the regular season averaging 10.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game for the North Division Champions. Yesterday, Thompson was also selected to the all-conference squad by the league's coaches. Thompson and Clayton will try to add a Southern Conference Tournament championship to their resumes starting tonight when they face Western Carolina in the quarterfinals of the SoCon Tournament at 7 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum.
