Appalachian State snapped a 14-game losing streak to Georgia Southern by topping the Eagles 78-75 Saturday at the Holmes Center. Appalachian State, trailing 75-74, got a jumper from Kiki Conyers with 27.1 seconds left to take the lead. Appalachian State then did not allow Georgia Southern to inbound the ball and Conyers hit two free throws with 6.3 seconds left to preserve the victory, Appalachian State's second straight. "It's the first time I've beaten Georgia Southern in my four years at Appalachian," Conyers said. "It's a big win for us. It's a confidence builder going into Davidson. We needed this game." Conyers, who finished with 10 points, was one of five Mountaineers to score in double figures. Jocelyn Wyatt had 16 points, Danielle Edwards added 15 while Greteya Kelley scored 13 and Jaime Bennett 12. The Mountaineers (8-9, 4-4 Southern Conference) shot 51.9 percent from the field, including 56.5 in the second half. Georgia Southern (7-10, 4-4), missing two starters because of academic ineligibility, got 16 points from Nicole Newton and 15 from Ashley Nelson. "Hats off to App," Eagles coach Rusty Cram said. "They nailed two straight shots and when they had to. They held their composure down the stretch and you would expect them to do that with the experience they have."
