BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University's season opener at Hawaii will be televised live on FOX Sports Net West 2, the first of seven Appalachian football games to appear on regional and national television during the 2003 season. Six other matchups, including four consecutive tilts in the month of October highlight Appalachian's television schedule.
Set to be the first-ever meeting between Appalachian and Hawaii, the Aug. 30 game is being broadcast through KFVE, Honolulu's Channel 5, and is available on FOX Sports Net West 2. Kickoff from Aloha Stadium is slated for 6:05 p.m. Hawaii Time, or 12:05 a.m. local time.
In addition to the matchup at Hawaii, Appalachian's trip to Eastern Kentucky one week later will be aired on the newly developed College Sports Television (CSTV). Start time from Richmond, Ky. is set for
3:30 p.m.
Beginning a stretch of four consecutive television games in October, Appalachian makes its first appearance on The Football Network (TFN) on Oct. 4, when it entertains East Tennessee State. Game time for the Homecoming showdown versus ETSU is 3:30 p.m.
A streak of three consecutive televised matchups between Appalachian and Furman will continue with the Oct. 11 meeting at Paladin Stadium airing on FOX Sports Net South. Kickoff in Greenville will be
3:30 p.m.
For the fourth time in the last five regular-season meetings between Appalachian and Georgia Southern, the Oct. 18 ASU-GSU tilt will be broadcast on FOX Sports Net South.
On Oct. 25, Appalachian looks for redemption from a loss last season when it travels to Wofford. Tentatively scheduled to air on TFN, the start time from Gibbs Stadium is 12:20 p.m.
Appalachian's Nov. 15 contest versus Western Carolina has been reserved to appear on FOX Sports Net South. The annual battle for the Old Mountain Jug is scheduled to get underway at Kidd Brewer Stadium at 4:00 p.m.
The Mountaineers get preseason camp started this evening when 90 players report to campus. The first practice is slated for August 6 at 1:00 p.m.
Appalachian finished with an 8-4 record and its fifth consecutive top 10 ranking in the final national polls in 2002 under 15th-year head coach
