Mountaineer Football Notebook: Former NFL GM Praises Edwards, ASU
BOONE, N.C. - In Thursday's Asheville Citizen-Times, former Green Bay Packers general manager Ron Wolf heaped praise on Appalachian State University's rise to football prominence and the professional potential of ASU quarterback Armanti Edwards.

In an column written by Citizen-Times sports editor Bob Berghaus, Wolf called Appalachian a “football-producing school.”

Speaking specifically on whether or not he would give Edwards a look as a potential NFL signal-caller, Wolf told Berghaus: “I wanted guys who played in big-time football games like (Edwards) played in front of 100,000 people at Michigan. That's a big deal. The whole thing is whether you win or lose. I don't know how else to put that.”

Wolf spent 25 seasons in various personnel roles with NFL clubs, most notably as the Packers' GM from 1992-2000.

The Winston-Salem Journal's Tommy Bowman also touched on Edwards' potential as a pro passer in his App Trail blog on Wednesday. Bowman quotes Furman head coach Bobby Lamb, whose Paladins were torched by Edwards' 461 total yards last Saturday, as saying: “We had kids covered as good as you could cover them on Saturday in about three or four cases and (Edwards) put the ball on the money,”
