SERIES: UNC Greensboro holds the commanding series lead, as the two squads have met a total of 12 times, with the Spartans winning all but one game. In 2007, ASU and UNCG battled in a hard fought match, but Greensboro was able to narrowly edge Appalachian, coming up with the 2-1 win. The Apps are on a six year winning drought against UNCG, with the Black and Gold's last win coming in 2002, when ASU was victorious in Boone, winning 1-0.

UNCG SPARTANS: The Spartans post a record of 9-4-1 and 4-0-1 the four losses coming extremely tough competition, dropping close matches to Santa Clara, Duke and Stanford. In SoCon action, UNCG is undefeated, having defeated Chattanooga, The Citadel, College of Charleston, Western Carolina and tied SoCon newcomer Samford. In 2007, the Spartans went undefeated in regular season SoCon play, before losing to Furman in the SoCon Championship game.

THE MOUNTAINEERS: Appalachian is 5-5-2 on the season and 1-3-1 in the SoCon and is hungry for its second conference win of the season, having dropped a close match to Elon on Friday evening. Casey Cleary scored twice in the match, to cut the score to 3-2, but ASU's rally came up short, as the Phoenix were victorious 3-2. Appalachian is also searching for a win in the month of October, as ASU has fallen to Elon, tied Wofford and lost to Furman. The Black and Gold's last win came on September 28 over The Citadel. Offensively, Cleary has been the spark for the Mountaineer offense, tallying a total of four goals, while Caroline Lowe has been productive as well, recording three goals and four assists, including two assists against Elon. In goal, Caroline Clarke has played and started all 12 games, making 65 saves, good enough to help her crack into the top-10 on the all-time seasons saves list.

UP NEXT: ASU will head to Davidson, N.C. to take on top SoCon competitor Davidson, on October 16 at 7 p.m.
