BOONE, N.C. - Already named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the day, Appalachian State University's Kevin Richardson added to his list of accolades when I-AA.org named the sophomore running back one of its Weekly All-Stars on Monday. Richardson is one of just four players nationwide to earn the honor this week. Richardson turned in the 20th 200-yard rushing performance in school history with 208 yards in Appalachian's 24-7 dismantling of No. 16 Georgia Southern on Saturday. His 208 rushing yards were the most by a SoCon player since ASU's Jimmy Watkins registered 216 in a 2001 I-AA playoff victory over William & Mary. He needed just 22 carries to amass the 208 yards on the ground, good for a 9.5-yard average. He broke off a career-long 73-yard run to set up his two-yard touchdown plunge that gave Appalachian a 17-0 lead less than five minutes into the second quarter. The Elizabethtown, N.C. native also caught six passes for a career-high 77 receiving yards to give him 285 all-purpose yards, the most in the SoCon this season. He ranks fourth in the SoCon and 28th nationally with 96 rushing yards per game (576 total) and leads the league with 137.8 all-purpose yards per contest (827 total) in 2005. The recognition marks Richardson's second national award of the season, as he was also named The Sports Network's National Offensive Player of the Week following a 178-yard, three-touchdown performance versus nationally ranked Coastal Carolina on Sept. 17. Richardson and the Apps continue their quest for the SoCon title this weekend when they travel to face Wofford, one of three teams they are tied with for first place in the conference race. The contest is slated to kick off noon and will be televised live across the region on Comcast Sports Southeast.
