Danny Forshey, a former professional golfer and successful Division I head coach, was named head coach of the App State men's golf program in August 2019.

In his first year at the helm of the Mountaineers, Forshey's squad posted four top-3 team finishes during the 2019-20 campaign. Despite a shortened season due to COVID-19, his team's 287.52 scoring average placed 2nd among all Sun Belt constitutes.

In under a year, the Black and Gold surged up 99 positions in Golfstat's rankings and a total of 105 spots in Golfweek’s collegiate rankings.

Forshey's leadership help to rewrite the App State men's golf record book with 39 entries. Off the course, a 3.64 team GPA in the spring of 2020 marked the highest semester GPA in program history.

Before coming to the High Country, he served as director of intercollegiate golf at Bethune-Cookman University from 2017-19, leading the men's and women's golf teams to a combined 16 tournament victories in two seasons.

He guided both the men's and women's teams at BCU to first-place finishes at the PGA Works Collegiate Championship. The new App State coach also led the Wildcat men to a second-place finish at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships.

In Forshey's first spring season in 2018, both the men and women dominated at the PGA National Minority Championships, winning by 57 and 27 strokes, respectively. Under his tutelage, the men recorded a program record with five tournament triumphs in 2018. The women also excelled in Forshey's first spring campaign, securing three tournament victories.

His drive and recruiting prowess also helped expand the women's roster from only two players in 2017 to six student-athletes at the start of the 2018-19 season. Between the men's and women's squads, the Wildcats roster featured 12 student-athletes from outside of the United States.

Forshey began his collegiate coaching career at Alcorn State. In one year with the Braves, the men's team had its highest finish at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championships in program history. His player development skills also shined as each student-athlete on the men's and women's teams improved his or her scores. In particular, Daniel Racioppa clinched the SWAC individual title and earned the school's first-ever NCAA Regional appearance.

All of Forshey's accomplishments at Alcorn State culminated in the SWAC naming him its Coach of the Year in 2017.

Before entering the collegiate coaching ranks, Forshey played professional golf for 15 years at a variety of levels, including the PGA Tour, PGA Tour Canada, Web.com Tour, Gateway Tour and Hooters Tour. He won 17 tournaments as a professional.

In 2013, Forshey started his own golf academy. He directed the Forshey Golf Academy from 2013-16, focusing on consistent practice routines and time management skills.

Forshey earned a bachelor's degree in management communication from Amridge University (Montgomery, Ala.) in 2019. A native of Montgomery, Forshey and his wife, Lindsey, have two children, Hailey and Ryan.
