Sean Carter completed his collegiate career at App State during the 2024-25 season and joined the Mountaineers' staff prior to the 2025-26 season.

His collegiate career cut short by a second significant injury, Carter ended the 2024-25 season with a 71-38 career record that included a conference championship and one victory during his NCAA Championships appearance at 133 pounds in 2021.

Carter started at 125 pounds as a true freshman, when he was named the SoCon’s Freshman of the Year. He went 22-7 in career duals and 14-2 in SoCon duals.

An injury ended Carter's 2022-23 season, and he redshirted while returning to full health during the 2023-24 season. He won an 8-5 decision in overtime against Virginia Tech’s Sam Latona, a two-time All-American, early in the 2024-25 season and had a 6-3 lead in the third period against No. 6 Kai Orine from NC State when he suffered a season-ending knee injury.
