After going an undefeated 7-0 in Southern Conference action in 2016-17, the Mountaineers also sent four wrestlers to the NCAA Championships, where Denzel Dejournette would become the first App State wrestler since 2012 to be named an All-American.
The Mountaineers received their first national ranking in Roosa’s first year, only to be eclipsed in his second year with a No. 20 ranking in the USA Today/NWCA poll. The 2016 team swept the SoCon regular season and tournament titles.Â
Individually, Roosa has helped coach the Black and Gold to 13Â All-Southern Conference recognitions and two SoCon Wrestlers of the Year. The Mountaineers have also sent 16Â wrestlers to the NCAA Championships.
