Savanna Wood completed her fifth year as an assistant coach for the App State women’s golf program in 2022-23.
Wood both graduated and played golf at App State. Wood began her colligate career with the Mountaineers in 2014 and ultimately graduated in May of 2018.
Before attending App State, she attended nearby Watauga High School, where she was an all-state performer as a senior and a sophomore in golf and all-conference during her freshman, sophomore, junior and senior seasons. Wood was named MVP all four years and player of the year her sophomore and senior years of high school. She also lettered in basketball, making all-conference in her junior and senior years.
During her freshman season as a Mountaineer in 2014-15, Wood placed first at the Cape Fear National Intercollegiate. She played 26 rounds in 12 total tournaments, averaging a score of 78.19. Wood went on to post three top-five finishes in 2014-15.
As a sophomore, Wood notched another event victory at the Winthrop Intercollegiate.
During her junior campaign, she competed in 25 rounds over 10 tournaments. Wood continued to produce and accumulated three more individual top-10 finishes.
As an assistant coach for App State, Wood helped the Mountaineers win multiple tournaments during the 2018-19 spring season for the first time since 2014-15. The Black and Gold took first among 11 teams at the French Broad Collegiate Invitational just two weeks after securing first in a six-team field at the Bucknell Spring Break Intercollegiate.
Despite a shortened 2019-20 campaign due to the rise of COVID-19, the Black and Gold amassed the lowest seasonal team average in school history — 305.67 over 15 rounds of play.
