Volleyball Travels to Virginia to Open Conference Slate Against ODU

BOONE, N.C. — App State Volleyball prepares to open conference play at Old Dominion on Thursday and Friday. The Mountaineers (7-7) will face the Monarchs (4-7) in a two-match series in Norfolk, Va., marking the beginning of Sun Belt Conference play for both teams.

LAST TIME OUT
The Mountaineers concluded their nonconference slate at Eastern Kentucky in the Geri Polvino Invitational. 

App State pened tournament action Friday with wins over Tennessee Tech and Presbyterian to go 2-0 on the day. It fell to Eastern Kentucky in a five-set match Saturday, dropping the contest 20-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-21, 7-15.

MeMe Davis and Raegan Richardson earned all-tournament honors for the second time this season.

SERIES HISTORY vs. OLD DOMINION
App State and Old Dominion have met nine times, with the Mountaineers holding a 5-4 advantage in the all-time series.

The Mountaineers and Monarchs split a two-match series in Norfolk last season, with App State winning 3-1 on Oct. 11 before ODU responded with a 3-0 victory on Oct. 12.

SCOUTING OLD DOMINION
ODU went 5-22 overall and 2-14 in Sun Belt play last fall. 

Old Dominion opened the season by hosting the Quest for the Crown, followed by the Monarch Invitational and the No Quarter Invitational at East Carolina. The Monarchs earned wins over USC Upstate, Navy and Maryland Eastern Shore during the nonconference schedule.

Leilani Lawrence leads the Monarchs this season with 195.5 points and 161 kills, averaging 3.83 kills per set. Lawrence also leads the team with 27 service aces.

The Monarchs are led by setters Wiktoria Zagumny and Erica Duffy, who have 182 and 161 assists, respectively. Libero Ashlyn Gent leads ODU with 111 digs.

ON THE HORIZON
The Mountaineers will continue the conference slate at home against Coastal Carolina on Oct. 2 and Oct. 3. Both matches will be available to stream on ESPN+.
