BOONE, N.C. – The Mountaineers look forward to traveling to NC State for their first meeting since 2019, with the matchup serving as App State's second ACC contest of the season. The match will have live stats available at appstatesports.com and will be broadcast on ACCNX.
LAST TIME OUT
App State volleyball (5-5, 0-0 SBC ) went 2-1 at the Mountaineer Classic, earning wins over William & Mary and Western Carolina while falling to North Florida in a five-set battle. The Mountaineers opened the weekend with a 3-0 sweep of William & Mary before dropping a 3-2 decision to North Florida. App State closed the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Western Carolina to move to 5-5 on the season.
Against Western Carolina, Charlotte Thompson led the Mountaineers with a career-high 17 kills, while Lou Johnson added 11 kills and a career-high-tying eight blocks. Raegan Richardson recorded 46 assists, and MeMe Davis tallied 19 digs. Delanie Grevengoed added four service aces as App State hit .389 as a team and recorded 63 kills in the four-set victory.
Davis and Richardson were named to the Mountaineer Classic All-Tournament Team while also earning Sun Belt Conference players of the week for their performances throughout the weekend. Davis anchored the Mountaineer defense, while Richardson directed the offense from the setter position.
SCOUTING NC STATE
NC State enters Tuesday's matchup with a 7-1 record after winning five straight matches. The Wolfpack most recently swept Belmont, 3-0, on Sunday at Reynolds Coliseum and enters its final home nonconference match of the season.
NC State has been led offensively by sophomore opposite Jordan Smith, who recorded a match-high 11 kills against Belmont and has posted double-digit kills in four consecutive matches. Smith enters Tuesday's matchup hitting .450 in her most recent match, while middle blocker Talia Francom added eight kills on a .462 hitting percentage against the Bruins.
Setter Eva Long recorded 34 assists in the sweep, while libero Zuzia Maciejewicz led the Wolfpack with 24 digs. Middle blocker Sophie Groom added a match-high seven blocks, marking her highest block total since joining NC State in 2023.
As a team, NC State hit .300 against Belmont while recording 46 kills, nine blocks and five service aces. The Wolfpack has hit .300 or better in four matches this season and has recorded four sweeps.
Tuesday's matchup will be the Mountaineers' second ACC opponent of the season. First serve is set for 6 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum, with the match available on ACC Network Extra.
ON THE HORIZON
The Mountaineers will close out nonconference play and travel to Eastern Kentucky this weekend to play in the Geri Polvino Invitational. Opponents are Tennessee Tech, Presbyterian and Eastern Kentucky. App State volleyball looks forward to opening conference play at Old Dominion and adding two to the win column.
