Baseball Throttles UNC Asheville Behind Career Days from Smith, Walker

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Steven Smith belted the first pitch of the ballgame over the left field fence and the App State baseball team never looked back on its way to a 18-5 victory over UNC Asheville on Tuesday at Greenwood Baseball Field.

The Mountaineers (17-14, 5-7) set season-highs for runs (18), hits (18) and walks (15), while seven players tallied multi-hit efforts, sweeping the season series from the Bulldogs (15-18, 3-6).

Charlie Evans singled to lead off the second inning, extending his season-best hitting streak to 15 consecutive games. Two batters later, Smith clocked his second home run of the game over the left field fence to give the Mountaineers a 3-0 advantage.

Smith finished the contest going 4-for-6 with two home runs, three RBIs and a career-high five runs scored. He is the first Mountaineer this season to enjoy a multi-homer game.

After stranding the bases loaded in the first two innings, App State reversed its fortune in the fourth when Tommy Walker belted a grand slam for his first career home run. The senior catcher finished the game going 2-for-4 with five RBIs, adding a run-scoring double in the fifth. App State scored 10 runs in the middle three frames to jump out to a ten-run lead.

Logan Tibbett made his first start of the season for App State. The right-hander earned his first victory of the season, striking out three and allowing just one hit across three scoreless innings.

Everette HarrisJJ GarciaMax Tramontana and Smith all added scoreless relief outings.

App State will return to Smith Stadium to host ULM Friday through Sunday. The Warhawks are tied for second place in the Sun Belt standings.

The 2026 App State Baseball season is presented by Chick-fil-A.
