This Season
It has been a record-breaking season for App State. Matthew Gray has led the way, as he is undefeated in the outdoor pole vault this season and ranks eighth in the NCAA with a clearance of 5.61m/18-4.75. This mark also leads the Sun Belt by a significant margin and also broke his own school record that he set this season.
The men's distance runners have been electric this season, as Thomas Wlazlowski, who broke the school record in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:01.49, leads the pack, while Noah Martinson has also been strong, as he broke the 3000 meters record with a time of 8:21.03 in the first meet of the season. Rowan Gwin has shot his way into multiple top-three positions in the record books. Right behind Wlazlowski, Gwin ran a 14:10.78 in the 5000 meters, placing him third in history, and a time of 3:44.45 in the 1500 meters, which moved him up to second in the event and was the fastest time since 2012.
Sophomore Savannah Moore has led the charge for the women's team this outdoor season. She has catapulted herself into the top three in multiple events in App State history. In the 1500 meters, she finished with a time of 4:25.54 last weekend at the Wake Forest Invitational and a time of 2:08.39 in the 800 meters at the Raleigh Relays.
Multiple women's field athletes have performed at high levels this year. In her first appearance of the season, Harlee Fonville heaved her discus 48.42m/158-10, eclipsing the previous school record set in 2008. Lilly Nichols and Ava Studney have continued their pole vault dominance this season. At the Duke Invitational, they both cleared a bar of 4.08m/13-4.5, a mark that is only behind their own records, which are first and second in school history.
