BLACKSBURG, Va. / WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The App State women's track and field team split for the Doc Hale VT Meet in Blacksburg, Va. and the Camel City Sprints meet in Winston-Salem, N.C. on Friday. The Mountaineers tallied 12 top-10 finishes between the two meets.
Doc Hale VT Meet
Freshman
Alana Braxton matched her personal best leap of 5.98m (19' 7.5") to place second in the women's long jump. Braxton originally recorded her personal best of 5.98m (19' 7.5") at the UNC Asheville Collegiate Opener on Jan. 10, which moved her to ninth in the App State all-time list. With a season best leap of 5.57m (18' 3.25"), sophomore
Jahaila Wright landed seventh in the women's long jump.
On the track, senior
Damyja Alejandro-Ortiz finished third in the women's 400 meters, stopping the clock at 56.13. Junior
Nicole Wells (56.58), sophomore
Ja'Naya Linder (56.74), and senior
Daye Talley (56.78) joined Alejandro-Ortiz in the event's top 10. In the women's 60-meter prelims, junior
Jayla Adams placed fourth with a time of 7.57, while Wells took eighth with a season best of 7.63. Alejandro-Ortiz also stopped the clock at 7.66 to place 10th.
Freshman
Tessa Massa stopped the clock at 10:03.81 for a personal best and eighth-place finish in the women's 3,000 meters. Sophomore
Savannah Moore and freshman
Josie Jackson posted a pair of personal bests in the women's mile with times of 4:58.89 and 4:59.39, respectively.
Camel City Sprints
With a toss of 16.31m (53' 6.25"), sophomore
Emily Edwards placed fifth in the women's weight throw at the Camel City Sprints meet. Fellow sophomore
Harlee Fonville placed sixth in the event with a toss of 16.29m (53' 5.5"). In the seeded section of the women's 200 meters, sophomore
Zaniya Littlejohn placed 15th after stopping the clock at 25.08.
Action at the Doc Hale VT Meet resumes at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Camel City Distance meet is scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. start.
