Soccer Hosts Coastal Carolina on Alumni Day Sunday

BOONE N.C. – App State Soccer's record-breaking season continues at home on Sunday as the team takes on Coastal Carolina at 1 p.m. Homecoming festivities in the 828 continue as the Mountaineers will celebrate Alumni Day at The Valley. App State will also pay tribute to Breast Cancer Awareness month. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
 
App State (8-2-3, 3-1-1) is coming off a 4-0 win against Georgia Southern on Thursday. The four-goal effort was the most goals scored against Georgia Southern across the 41 all-time meetings. The Mountaineers also set a program record, earning their sixth road win of the season. Ellie Garrison earned her first career hat-trick, the seventh in program history. Ella Hoover also scored her first career goal off a corner kick from Aleesia Ambrosio, while the defense posted its eighth clean sheet of the season.
 
The Mountaineers have outshot their opponents 13.5 to 7.5 this season and continue to be ranked nationally in corner kicks, sitting at 21st nationally with 92 corners. Garrison leads the team with nine goals, Bermingham follows with six and Olivia Simon with three. Hayden Petrick and Sofia Goclowski are tied for the lead in assists with four apiece. are tied with Louisiana for third place in the Sun Belt Conference, just behind James Madison and Old Dominion.
 
Coastal Carolina (7-5-2, 1-3-1) comes to the pitch off of a 4-1 victory over Southern Miss on Thursday, marking their first win against a Sun Belt opponent since the 2024 Sun Belt Conference tournament. Olivia Goretski scored two goals for the Chants, while Kamden Pierce and Sydney Maglicola also found the back of the net. Goretski leads Coastal Carolina with seven goals this season, Olivia Lawerence follows with three. Coastal Carolina has outshot opponents 13.2-12.0. The Chants are eighth in the Sun Belt standings, tied with Louisiana Tech with four points. The Chanticleers are led by first-year head coach Pete Cuadrado who took over the program in late spring. Coastal was picked 11th in the Sun Belt preseason poll.
 
App State and Coastal Carolina are meeting for the 18th time since 2000, Coastal Carolina's inaugural season. The Chants lead the series 7-5-5 but have not won since 2021. The last three matchups have resulted in ties, with the latest being a 1-1 draw in Conway last season.
