BLACKSBURG, Va. – The App State women's track and field team wrapped competition at Virginia Tech's Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. on Saturday. The Black and Gold totaled 19 top five finishes and two broken program records over the course of the weekend.
On the track, App State took the top two spots in the women's 800 meters. Freshman
Josie Jackson finished first with a personal best of 2:13.24, which moved her to seventh in the App State all-time list. Following Jackson was senior
Addison Ollendick-Smith, who clocked a season best of 2:15.28 to place second.
The Mountaineers registered second-place finishes in the women's 200 meters, women's 400 meters, women's 4x400-meter relay, women's high jump, and the seeded section of the women's pole vault.
Sophomore
Ja'Naya Linder clocked a season best of 56.83 for a season best and second-place finish in the women's 400 meters, while junior
Jayla Adams placed second in the women's 200 meters with a time of 24.57. With a time of 3:44.92, the 4x400-meter relay team of junior
Nicole Wells, Adams, and seniors
Daye Talley and
Damyja Alejandro-Ortiz placed second overall and was one second shy of the program record of 3:43.85, which was set in 2023.
Sophomore
Lilly Nichols finished second in the women's pole vault with a clearance of 4.17m (13' 8.25"), while senior
Ava Studney placed sixth with a clearance of 3.94m (12' 11"). In the women's high jump, freshman
Ashlynn Wimberly tied for second after clearing a bar of 1.66m (5' 5.25"). Fellow freshman
Alana Braxton placed third in the women's triple jump with a leap of 12.24m (40' 2") and was followed by Wimberly, who took fourth with a mark of 12.11m (39' 8.75").
The Mountaineers saw a pair of personal bests in the women's mile as sophomore
Savannah Moore recorded a time of 5:01.04 to place fourth and freshman
Elizabeth McCart stopped the clock at 5:09.99 to finish sixth.
Friday Rewind
On Friday, the Mountaineers reset the women's 300-meter and 1,000-meter program records. With a time of 38.42, Adams broke the previous women's 300-meter record of 38.50, which was set in 2013. Adams finished second overall and was followed by Alejandro-Ortiz (third, 38.56, PR), Wells (fourth, 39.23), Talley (fifth, 39.25, PR), and junior
Kendall Johnson (sixth, 39.35, PR). Adams had also registered a second-place finish in the women's 60-meter prelims with a personal best of 5.92m (19' 5.25").
Jackson clocked a personal best of 2:52.62 to break the women's 1,000-meter school record. The previous record of 2:52.76 was set during the 2025 campaign. Jackson placed fourth overall and was followed by Moore, who placed fifth with a personal best of her own (2:55.08).
In the women's long jump, Braxton registered a third-place finish with a leap of 5.92m (19' 5.25")). Sophomore
Emily Edwards recorded a personal best toss of 17.10m (56' 1.25") to place sixth in the women's weight throw.
