BOONE, N.C. / WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The App State men's and women's track & field team rounded out the first day of competition at the App State Open with four event wins and 11 top-three finishes on Friday. Five Mountaineers also competed at the Wake Forest Invitational, notching five top-40 finishes.
Action at the App State Open resumes at 10:30 a.m. with track events. Field events are scheduled to start at 11 a.m. The Mountaineers will also honor their seniors at 5 p.m.
App State Open
On the track, senior
Regan Hodge placed first in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal best of 11:21.82. Freshman
Thomas Wlazlowski placed first in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal best of his own, 9:20.36, and was followed by redshirt junior
Steven Smith, who stopped the clock at 9:35.79. The Mountaineers went 1-2-3-4 in the women's 10,000 meters, led by senior
Linnea Maynard, who clocked a time of 38:18.15. Sophomore
Mary Biagini secured second (38:50.09, PR), while seniors
Catherine Breault and
Riley Roach placed third (38:55.02) and fourth (39:09.13, PR), respectively.
Freshman
Abigail Goetz clinched first in the women's javelin with a personal best of 35.18m (115' 5") while fellow freshman
Emily Edwards recorded a personal best of 42.02m (137' 10") in the women's weight throw to place second overall.
In the men's high jump, sophomore
Jared Hiatt tied for third with a leap of 1.92m (6' 3.5"), while junior Jacob Stanley registered a third-place finishes and personal bests in the men's javelin (50.21m (164' 9")) and men's hammer throw (48.42m (158' 10")).
Wake Forest Invitational
Junior
Ethan Lipham placed 29th in the men's 1,500 meters with a time of 3:50.00 while freshman
Rowan Gwin rounded out the top-40 with a time of 3:52.62.
Graduate student
Ethan Turner, redshirt senior
Calbert Guest, and freshman
Henry Stark finished among the top-40 in the men's 5,000 meters. Turner led the Mountaineers, stopping the clock at 14:10.99. Turner previously set the program record with a time of 14:08.07 at the 2025 Raleigh Relays. Senior
Calbert Guest stopped the clock at 14:18.64 and moved to fifth in the App State all-time list. Freshman
Henry Stark clocked a time of 14:22.17. Stark currently stands second in the program all-time list with a time of 14:10.86, which he also set at the 2025 Raleigh Relays.
